Is there a better feeling than being sat beside a stunning venue and sliding the net under a pristine roach? I’m at the wonderful Staunton Harold Reservoir today in the East Midlands which has recently become a prime hotspot for feeder anglers like myself. It’s not difficult to see why. It’s a vast waterway with depths up to 80 feet in places and some impressive fish happily living in the depths.

It’s a pretty breathtaking body of water to be sat beside. After setting my platform up in the shallow margins I almost feel at one with the place! But when faced with such a large expanse of water, it’s also quite an intimidating venue to tackle.

Where do you start? Where do you cast and why? Do you need specialist gear? What baits do you bring? I’m still learning about this venue myself, but hopefully I can show you why there is nothing to be afraid of. Hopefully I can help answer some of the most-asked questions. It’s also a very nice excuse to get out and play with some superb new items of Matrix gear that’s just come out…
